4 TIPS FOR WHEN IT’S ALL TOO HARD

We have been hearing from many of you that you are struggling. That you’re trying to stay motivated, stay disciplined, stay positive, stay AWAKE – and sometimes it’s all too hard and you want to crawl under the blankets and sleep for approximately 72 days.

Here’s what we want to say to you: WE HEAR YOU.

And: WE GET YOU.

And: WE SOMETIMES FEEL THE SAME.

The world is going through so much change and upheaval at the moment. Things that we had assumed would last forever (marriages, careers, politics) are, for many of us, shaky or crumbling. Sometimes, life is HARD. And do you know what? It’s OK if you’re struggling. We have some tips for you today that we use in our own lives when life feels like a struggle and we just want to lie on the couch and watch daggy movies for a whole day.

Tip One

Lie on the couch and watch daggy movies for a whole day. Seriously. We mean it! We live in a culture that dismisses and sometimes belittles the concept of rest. If you are tired and overwhelmed, often the best thing you can do is that thing you really want to do, but tell yourself you’re lazy for even thinking about it: Rest. Sleep. Relax. Take a break. Whatever form of rest feels like relief to you – even if it’s just finding a spot in the sun, sitting down and doing nothing for seven minutes – try to give yourself permission to rest.

Tip Two

If you already feel rested, check in with your body to see what IT feels like. Trust us on this. If you ask your mind what it would like to do, it will give you a bucket list based on what you think you SHOULD do. If you ask your body (we mean actually asking ‘darling body of mine, what would you like to do right now?’) you may be amazed what it says to you. When everything feels too hard, sometimes the best thing we can do is leap towards what feels like fun, contentment, peace, love and joy to our bodies. You will know what to do when, as you think of a particular option, your body seems to relax and respond with a gentle or sometimes overwhelmingly loud “YES!!! THAT’S what I want!”. Try not to question it when this happens. Just go with it.

Tip Three

Remember: it’s all going to be OK. Breathe in, look around you, and realise that right in this moment, you are ok. Remember that this moment will pass.

Tip Four

Start feeling how you want to feel in the future. If it feels juicy to you, start picturing a moment a few minutes or weeks or years down the track when you are feeling exactly how you want to feel. Concentrate on that feeling. Try your best to feel it fully. And ask yourself: What step can I take right now to help me move towards that feeling … even if it’s a tiny ladybug step? Whatever it is: do it.

With much love, as always, especially if life is feeling hard right now,
